Professional Staff
Richard H. Fried, VMD

Doctor Fried, our medical director and owner, has been serving the Upper West Side for over 18 years. An alumnus of Oberlin College, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in 1987. While there, he served as president of his class, was elected to the veterinary honor society, and received the prestigious Merck award. Dr. Fried went on to complete an Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Penn before moving back to New York City.
After spending twelve successful years as an associate veterinarian at Westside Veterinary Center and Animal General, Dr. Fried founded Lincoln Square Veterinary Hospital in 2000. Since then he has seen it grow into a flourishing practice where his commitment to client relationships and the highest level of companion animal care continues to attract patients from all over the city. A strict vegetarian, Dr. Fried is also a member of Veterinarians for Animal Rights, the American Association of Feline Practitioners and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). At home he attends to two dogs of his own, one parrot, a turtle, a fish, eight rascally rats - and the other loves of his life: his wife Stella and daughters Lila and Sylvie.
Nuala McDermott, DVM

Dr. McDermott joined the practice in June 2008. She is a graduate of Cornell University and St. George School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. McDermott spent her clinical year at Oklahoma State University School of Veterinary Medicine. While in Stillwater, OK she found her beloved Great Pyrenees, Clancey. She and Clancey live on the upper west side and they can be seen out and about enjoying all the neighborhood has to offer.
Ellen Tan, DVM

Dr. Tan graduated from the Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. She then completed a small animal internship in California and practiced there until 2008. She has most recently been a staff veterinarian at Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists, but is eager to get back into general practice and surgery. In her spare time she enjoys exploring the city with her Rhodesian ridgeback Haley.
Jane Kosovsky, DVM
Dr. Kosovsky specializes in orthopedic and soft tissue surgery and as our principal surgeon, handles all of her patients with the highest caliber of caring and expertise. After earning her degree from Ohio State's veterinary school, she then completed her veterinary internship and surgical residency at Animal Medical Center (AMC) in New York City and has over 18 years of surgery experience behind her. As one of the most respected veterinary surgeons in the city, our clients and their pets are fortunate to be able to put their trust in her.
Jane Cho, DVM, DACVO

Our ophthalmologist, Dr. Cho, graduated from Cornell University's veterinary school in the top of her class. Since completing an internship at the AMC and an ophthalmology residency back at Cornell, she has specialized in animal eye care for over ten years. Besides being a board certified member of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists, Dr. Cho has been published in numerous veterinary journals and ophthalmology textbooks. The deep passion she holds for her work is reflected in the level of skill and concern she provides her patients and their owners.
Peggy Kane, LCSW, ACSW - Grief Counselor
Peggy Kane has been a licensed psychotherapist for over twenty years. Animals, and the human-animal bond, have been a passion since her childhood growing up with her veterinarian-father's large and small animal practice. A graduate of Columbia University's School of Social Work and a longtime resident of New York City, Peggy was very involved in crisis work following the 9/11 attacks and is specially trained in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing. She has many years' experience in helping people recover from grief and loss. In addition to her work for LSVETS, Peggy has a private individual and group practice, and shares her home with her husband and four -- yes, four! -- beloved Bichons Frises.
